The role: Legal Counsel
You'll play a vital role in our growing team by serving as Google's first point of contact for all legal matters in Belgium. You're a qualified lawyer in Belgium with substantial professional experience in intellectual property, technology and media law, either in-house or in an established law firm. You will provide day-to-day legal advice and negotiate and draft commercial agreements (including content and technology licensing). You will also handle a variety of legal complaints and supervise litigation proceedings whenever necessary. A deep understanding of Google's business and the ability to think quickly and practically are essential attributes for this job.
Responsibilities:

* Provide legal advice to the company, including the local management teams, legal teams, marketing, business development, advertising sales and other business departments in Belgium, throughout Europe and the US.
* Respond promptly and reliably to internal and external requests for advice, specifically with regards to litigation, regulatory inquiries, contracts, commercial regulations, IP, data protection, advertising and consumer protection.
* Manage pre-contentious and contentious matters (including private litigation and governmental investigations) and coordinate our working relationship with external law firms.
* Draft, negotiate and adapt under local law a wide variety of commercial agreements, including content licenses and strategic partnership agreements.
* Handle overflow work from other countries on a case by case basis, including French law and language commercial matters.

Minimum Qualifications:

* BA/BSc/LLB degree. In lieu of degree, relevant skills or equivalent experience.
* Qualified lawyer in Belgium and professional experience with a law firm advising media and technology companies and/or in-house experience in this industry.
* Written and oral fluency in French and English (experience drafting contracts in French and English).
* Background in media, communications, intellectual property and contract law, as well as litigation experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

* Graduate degree (LL.M or equivalent) from an English or North American law school.
* Strong negotiation and interpersonal skills and excellent business judgement.
* Hard working, well organised and able to manage numerous projects simultaneously under deadline pressure.
* Deep knowledge of online technologies and industry.
* Interest and understanding of the local political environment and strong interest in policy work.
* Flexibility (including some travel), willingness to work on a broad variety of legal matters, and a sense of humour!
